A Better Percussion Cap ?
The past few months we have been covering problems with percussion caps. We’ve had many e-mails from readers, a few suggestions and even a reply from CCI. While shopping at the local gun store, I noticed a new brand of caps and decided to give them a shot – so to speak.
These caps are the Vorderlader-Zundhutchen caps which are made in Germany by Dynamit Nobel. Yes the same Nobel that invented dynamite and founded the Nobel Prize. If nothing else, the product at least has a very impressive name behind it. They come in a red plastic container with a green label mostly in German. During our day of shooting, we had not a single misfire. We shot about 50-60 rounds using 3 different percussion revolvers
with no problems. Check out the video with the slow motion firing sequence. You can see that this is a hot cap. Below is a sequence of high-speed still photos showning the cap firing.
Doing a quick Internet search I found several hunting and shooting forums, all of which had very good remarks about these caps. The postings consistently said that the shooter had no misfires and that they were very impressed with these caps in comparison to others. I’m going to shot up this group of caps and one more and see if I have the same results. Any comments or experiences from the readers?
